Zydeco Jump was formed in 1988 by accordionist George Butrumlis and drummer Gary Samolin. Together with bassist Alan Wright and Ben Taylor on frottoir (washboard), they are the hottest Zydeco music band this side of the Mississippi River.

As further proof of their world wide appeal, they have just returned from their well attended and well received overseas festival performances at the Shaghai International Spring Festival and in New Caledonia. 2005 will find Zydeco Jump continuing to tour and introduce the music they love to a whole new audience.

Starting out at The Club Dancing Bar in Smith St. Collingwood, ZYDECO JUMP soon became one of Melbourne's most popular bands packing out venues and dance floors.
As their reputation for stand out live performances grew, they soon became a sought after act and made numerous appearances on ABC TV's The Big Gig, and Channel 7's Tonight Live with Steve Vizard.
In 1989 they commenced a Sunday residency at St Kilda's famous Esplanade Hotel which continued for nine years and over 400 performances.
ZYDECO JUMP'S national profile and reputation grew. From 1988-2000 they made many appearances on ABC Radio National's Music Deli and regular spots at major music festivals including:

· The Melbourne International Festival
· Sydney Carnivale
· The Adelaide Festival
· The Festival of Perth
· Port Fairy Folk Festival
· Maleney/Woodford Festival
· East Coast (Byron Bay) Blues Festival and the
· Wangaratta Jazz & Blues Festival

ZYDECO JUMP played supports for Buckwheat Zydeco on his tour of Australia in 1989.
At Byron Bay they appeared as the band for Louisiana Zydeco star, Mr Fernest Arceneaux.
In 1998, ZYDECO JUMP was engaged for three shows at the fabulous outdoor venue, Squeezebox, at the Adelaide Festival.

Their shows were such a hit, they were invited to play an extra night to provide a sufficiently high quality and high energy set to follow the Wynton Marsalis Band. Two minutes into their first number, two members of the Marsalis group joined ZYDECO JUMP on stage, making up a 3 piece hot horn section and providing a truly memorable gig which left the crowd chanting for more, more, more!
Throughout its life, ZYDECO JUMP has managed to absorb the real roots of Zydeco music and produce a fine catalogue of original material.

The band has previously released 4 CDs:
Port Phillip Bayou, Dig It Up, Zydeco Jump, and has just released the sensational critically acclaimed I Like It.
ZYDECO JUMP has earned its reputation as a hot, high energy band, guaranteed to deliver a great show!
Its musical roots are very broad but the main thrust is the infectious blues, rhythm & blues, and Cajun music of the French-speaking black people of southwest Louisiana.
ZYDECO JUMP's live set is a wild mixture of two-steps, waltzes, blues, boogie, and great original compositions influenced by the Zydeco tradition and the music that the members of the band have grown up with. The end result is some of the best dance music you will ever hear...
Laissez les bon temps rouler!
