The Wolfe Gang cooks up a blues storm on new CD
Melbourne band, The Wolfe Gang, has released its new CD, What's Cooking,
which captures the band's trademark ' feel-good blues' with energy,
humour and style.
Featuring guest appearances by Australian blues and roots greats Broderick
Smith, Mick 'The Rev' O'Connor (Goanna, Vika & Linda, Chain, The
Dingoes), Jimmie Sloggett (Max Merritt & The Meteors) and Steve
Williams (John Farnham band), What's Cooking was recorded live at St
Andrews Hotel by acclaimed sound engineer, Rob Harwood (Geoff Achison,
Cyndi Boste).
The 12 tracks include five originals in the Gang's upbeat and eclectic
style - from the rolling New Orleans feel of the title track to the
moody jazz of Overtake Me Baby, through to their country swing ode to
the morning after the night before, Back In Old Down Town, and the Louis
Jordan-inspired What's The Time Mrs Wolfe.
The band's fun vibe is also reflected in the original cover artwork
by legendary rock artist Ian McCausland, who has designed album covers
and posters for Daddy Cool, Broderick Smith and the Rolling Stones.
The Wolfe Gang bounded onto the Australian blues scene in 2003 with
their debut CD, Coming Back For More. Led by vocalist, Diana Wolfe,
the Gang members - Broc O'Connor (guitar), Roy Zedras (bass) and Peter
'Robbo' Robertson (drums) - share a love of the blues as well as decades
of experience performing at festivals, touring, recording and supporting
international acts including Van Morrison and the late Roy Orbison.
"The Wolfe Gang just keeps going from strength to strength
they create a great vibe, combining some tasty covers with an excellent
repertoire of originals," said Rob Harwood.
"They always have a great time and we always come out the other
side energised and feeling better for the experience. This is a perfect
recipe for a wonderful album."
The Wolfe Gang is a melting pot for the considerable talents and experience
of a group of Melbourne blues musicians who have performed at venues
and festivals across Australia and internationally.
Blending soul, R&B, blues, jazz, funk and swing with
style and humour, the Gang has a fresh, original and energetic sound.
From their groovy originals to R&B, soul and blues classics, the
Gang howls up a storm of music that's irresistibly appealing to all
ages and audiences.
Following the success of their debut CD, Coming Back For
More (2003), the Gang has released, What's Cooking - The Wolfe Gang
Live At St Andrews, recorded by acclaimed sound engineer, Rob Harwood
(Geoff Achison, Cyndi Boste).
The Gang formed early in 2002 through the popular Sunday
afternoon Elwood blues jam. Sharing a love of blues in all its forms,
