Tangazo formed in 2004 to play for the Tango School Viva's weekly dance night. The idea was to play a hot new Tango sound coming out of Argentina and Europe that was traditional Tango tunes with a funky groove base. A few members of Tangazo had played in traditional and Piazzolla inspired Tangazo ensembles prior to this so the transition was an easy and logical one.

Initially Tangazo performed only those well known traditional tangos, and at tempos suitable for dancing. But as the new approach to Tango settled and started to inspire the ensemble they introduced other elements to their sound. They found there was more to the music than just for dancing.

Late in 2005 they started playing in small bars and clubs around Melbourne, staying with the strong Electro/Tango style but introducing new influences to the sound and learning to improvise together as an ensemble within this style.

The result is this their first Album, containing sketches of Astor Piazzolla's tangos and original compositions and improvisations performed on accordion and violin and dubbed out to contort their forms over the grooving bed of drums and bass.

Tangazo's music is loved by Tango and World Music fans alike but is also easily accessible to audiences wanting chilled out beats and Jazz infused electronica; bringing new life to the fiery and tragic, yet soulful beauty of Tango music. Tangazo aims to takes Tango out of the dancehall and put it back into the bars and clubs.

Tangazo are on Violin and live signal processing Steph O'Hara (Blue Grassy Knoll, Adana), on accordion Phil Mcleod (Spaghetti Western Orchestra, Blue Grassy Knoll,) on drums Phill Collings (Dead Horse Band, Lou Bennett and the Sweet Cheeks) and on double Bass Tom Lee (Vada, Michelle Nicolle Quartet)
