DAYS Cat# SV0588
'Sugarbeat' is a fresh, new and exciting force in contemporary
Australian music.
Influences include Maceo Parker & the JB's, Curtis Mayfield, The
Meters, Tower of Power and Sly and The Family Stone.
'Sugarbeat' formed five years ago, bringing together some of Australia's
most brilliantly talented musicians. Years of live performances, rehearsals
and song writing has helped the band develop a uniquely Australian soul/funk
sound; infectious grooves, big production horns and songs distilled
through the hearts and minds of this high energy band.
All this can be experienced at their gigs and by listening to 'Sugarbeat's'
debut record "Days". After a busy schedule of live shows over
a period of a year (and pending urgent requests from punters), Sugarbeat
finally went into Sing Sing Recording Studios in South Yarra, Melbourne
to put down their debut record, with legendary Australian sound engineer
Andy Baldwin. Sugarbeat's bass player Steve Hadley, another legend in
Australian music, produced the record. The band was raring to go. They
recorded over three days, finishing in just under a week. With the help
of some more great musicians, including the fantastic James Morrison
playing a flugelhorn solo on one of the tracks, the icing was on the
cake.
Sugarbeat continues a busy schedule of gigs around Melbourne including:
Tony Starr's Kitten Club, The Belgian Beer Bar, The Vineyard, Manchester
Lane and The Evelyn hotel.
This band will continue to ignite the Australian live music scene with
it's unique original soul/funk sound and high energy performances
.
