Contemplate for a moment - sound. It is all around us. And it is with
us everyday, for all of our lives.
It's prime purpose for living beings is communication. Since the dawn
of humankind, a fascinating and diverse array of languages has evolved,
but the most universal of all languages, is music. For centuries, music
has been an integral element of ritual and ceremony in cultures throughout
the world - its influence has become all-pervasive. Now, in the 21st
Century, music is seemingly an indispensable part of living.
The effect of music on the individual is uniquely personal, and has
the power to penetrate one's core - more so, perhaps, than any other
form of communication.
Inspired by spirits passed and created in the moment, the emotion of
the fraternal musical dialogue on Invocations is raw and powerful, from
its mesmerizing drones to the dense maelstrom of its pure, unbridled
energy. The participants draw deep from within themselves as they not
only explore the sonorous capabilities of their instruments - the potency
of this musical interaction is exhilarating, and the sound, galvanizing.
This music demands that you, also as a participant, abandon conventional
ways of listening. Albert Ayler said, "
try to move your imagination
toward the sound. It's a matter of following the sound." Immerse
yourself in this sound. Open yourself to its energy. Answer the call.
Let it arouse the primal spirit within - it's power is euphoric.
Invocations is like the utterly distinctive, soul-stirring muezzin's
call to prayer, and is driven by a passionate commitment to music and
the expression of self through it.
