UNDER MY SKIN (EP) Cat# SV0538

Jessica Paige is a multi-award winning singer/songwriter from Melbourne.
She plays solo and with her band Jess and the Paige Boys. While each
song on the CD shares a common sweet sound, each is different, Jessica
Paige has delivered a wonderfully mature and brilliant CD, flowing with
her gorgeously vibrant voice and surrounded by jazzy pop/rock acoustic
sounds. She has created a great mix of acoustic pop/rock with a pinch
of jazz.
Neil Wedd, Promoter of The Jager Uprising, wrote "Jessica has
surrounded herself with a great band of professional players who highlight
her wonderful voice and songwriting ability:" See music page for
live reviews!
Jessica started busking on Swanston Street, Melbourne when she was
14. She can still be found busking on fine days in front of the Nike
Store in Bourke Street Mall, but now with a PA ( a rule of the council).
Jess released her first EP, "Back of Our Minds", in September
2004 (recorded at Sound Vault in Melbourne) and it has gradually collected
several songwriting awards. The first song was awarded the APRA Songwriter
Award at Musicoz.
In the band, Jessica plays her acoustic guitar and sings lead vocals,
Neil Tolantino provides solid bass, Peter "Robbo" Robertson
is rubber- wristed drummer and percussionist but sometimes drumming
duties alternate with John Laitala coming on board when Robbo has too
many irons in the fire.... Electric guitar and harmonies are supplied
by new addition Rob Murray, who can even play bass at the same time
with his feet ( he comes from the country).
The band's style is a mix of jazz-tinged pop/rock - Jessica has been
influenced by artists and bands that are strongly melodic and lyric-
driven... Her own father is a master singer/songwriter, vocalist and
guitar player (Steve Romig).
After the usual series of delays, Jessica's EP Under My Skin is due
for release in November. So far, one of the songs has been selected
for the AIR ( Australian Independent Recording Association) Pop Compilation
CD bound for various world showcases like SxSW and Midem, two have Honourable
Mentions, one has two international awards, another has been selected
for the Manchester Lane Compilation CD... and one hasn't seen the light
of day.
Some comments on the songs from her EP that listeners from Mp3.com.au
put on her site:
- "Very nice sultry voice, vocal phrasing is on the money, with
impressive lyrical melodies that draw the listener in.. a moving array
of dynamic balance. I expect a promising future with a talent such as
this. "
"What a find! I visited Jessica's site and found a song called
"Sam." I loved it. This song has everything. It starts out
soft and sweet and then leads into a chorus that makes you tingle. Her
music is very mature. Anyway I recommend it as I rate it amongst one
of the best songs I have ever heard."
"The EP that this track comes from is receiving high rotation on
my CD player! Jess has an amazing voice, she can re-produce it live
without a problem. This song is one of the most beautifly crafted songs
I've heard. The whole EP is great!!! Beautiful songs, beautiful voice
!! "
" This song is so beautiful! A precious gem waiting to be uncovered.
.. such a beautiful voice and melody. I have downloaded this track and
listened to it countless times, I can't wait to hear more! "
Her debut EP was partly funded by a grant from The Australia Council
and is available in Sydney and Brisbane ( Rockinghorse still has 2 copies).
It's also on over 50 download sites ( like itunes) by the song.
