David Holmes is a songwriter blessed with a Rolls Royce of a baritone voice. His songs capture life in Melbourne, the city he has called home for most of his life. Having also travelled and performed interstate and overseas, he has written about events along the way in his unique driving style. Fom his beginnings as 1970's Best New Comer on 'Bandstand', David led a very public life as a young, sought after musician about town. He received acclaim for his song 'Denver Idleman', which received plenty of national airplay, and went to number 8 on the charts in Melbourne. A keen observer of humane nature, David's sweetly bent lyrical perspective seemingly focusses on many individual characters, but a closer listen reveals a more universal view. These are stories that happen to a million different people, in a thousand different places every day, and that is their greatest strength After the success of 'Heartache Moon', David went back into the studio in January 2006 and recorded his latest CD, 'Great Ocean Road'. Continuing in the same vein, David has penned more great travelling songs, capturing once again that infectious driving sound. Recorded at Parkland Studios, the album features David Holmes, vocals, Jeff Burstin acoustic and electric guitar, and Bruce Hames, key boards. The addition of the incredibly talented Jaimi Faulkner, playing Lap Steel and Dobro, gives David's songs a rootsy rock feel. |

These are stories that happen to a million different people, in a thousand different places every day, and that is their greatest strength 'Heartache Moon' was recorded live at the Lomond Hotel, and features everything from full-on rockers, to gritty love songs. Stand out tracks include the title track, 'Drivin' My Guitar', (an ode to his musical life style), 'Hold on Tight' (written about a Melbourne busker, Delter Dave, who used to give all his money to street kids, and was a victim of depression, and then suicide), and 'Love Struck Tango', (a knowing tale of lust at first glance from across the bar). Backed by a stellar band, including Jeff Burstin on electric guitar, Bruce Hames on key boards, Peter Beulke on bass, and Jeff Pickard on drums, the album contains 11 original songs and three stunning covers. Recorded at Parkland Studios, the album features David Holmes, vocals, Jeff Burstin acoustic and electric guitar, and Bruce Hames, key boards. |
