'Great Ocean Road'

David Holmes, one of Australia's most original song writers would be a valuable asset to Victorian Tourism based on the appeal of the title track of his new album 'Great Ocean Road', a tribute to the magnificent scenic route that winds along the ever-changing scenery of the South-West Victorian Coast.

An outstanding band that includes guitarists Jeff Burstin and Jaimi Faulkner, keyboard player Bruce Haymes and trumpet players Jeff Raglus and John Chapin-Fleming, refer to rock, jazz and boogie in their treatment of Holmes' on the road songs, a cover of 'Fever' and three acoustic bonus tracks.

While David Holmes writes songs about Melbourne and various characters he’s encountered in his home city, ‘Heartache Moon’ recorded live at The Lomond Hotel in April 2004 finds him relating stories that could be about anyone, anywhere.

Backed by a stellar group of musicians that include Jeff Burstin (guitar) and Bruce Haymes (keyboards), Holmes in his laconic style kickstarts his new album with the infectious ‘Driving My Guitar’ before exploring country (‘Love To Burn’), latin (‘Love Struck Tango’), folk (‘Hold On Tight’ dedicated to a Melbourne busker who gave his tips to street kids) and an urban love song ‘Starry Eyed’ inspired by moonlight walks along St Kilda’s Fitzroy Street.

His excellent choice of covers, The Kinks ‘Sunny Afternoon’, Bob Dylan’s ‘It’s All Over Now Baby Blue’ and Ben Harper’s politically potent ‘ Excuse Me Mr’ which precedes Holmes’ ‘Blues Train’ a thought provoking comment on communication breakdown, complete a successful return to the recording scene for this talented singer / songwriter.
